What Is Color Psychology?

Color psychology is the study of how popular colors impact human behavior and mood. Different colors have distinct spiritual meanings, connotations, and psychological effects that vary across different cultures. Along with cultural differences, personal preferences can impact color psychology. The scientific exploration of color psychology is relatively new, but people have long been interested in the nature and impact of color as we can see on archeological findings . In ancient cultures, colors were often used to treat different conditions, illness and influence emotions. They also played a role in different spiritual practices such as the celebration of the day of dead in Mexico, which is full of colors.

Darker colors

Colors can make spaces to feel certain way, example, dark colors make rooms feel smaller that they are, cozy and can influence in your mood. you will use dark colors on bedrooms, office, and commercial spaces. The reason why is because dark colors make space feel tight-knit and confining, it creates that cozy warm ambiance. Dark colors can help bring your energy levels down if you are feeling overstimulated or frantic.

Do not be afraid of dark colors in your space, however, be aware of how it could influence on your feelings, mood and energy.

If you decide to go for a darker color in any of your home, office or business spaces,

remember to complement your space with good light fixtures.

Lighter Colors

Whites, beiges and light colors reflect the most light in any space, and make them feel larger or bigger than what they really are. The color white and beige can feel fresh and clean. The color is often used to evoke a sense of youth and modernity.

In general color affects your mood through different associations and based on previous influence or experiences. The human brain associates warm colors—such as red, orange, and yellow—with a range of feelings, including passion, comfort, anger, and power.

Cool colors—such as blue, green, mauve and purple—have the opposite effect, creating a calming atmosphere that counteracts feelings of anxiety, this is because those are the colors you will find in nature landscapes. Be aware that while cool tones can calm and soothe an uneasy disposition, they can also trigger feelings of sadness and indifference.

Point to take...

More research is needed to determine how color influence on the mental and physical state of the human. Universal associations, based on previous experience or exposure may exist, but many other factors, including personal preferences and individual live through, also play an important role in your unique emotional and behavioral response. Be brave, be bold and choose the color that represent yourself and how you want to feel in that special space at your home, office or business.
